The first round of the World Cup of Darts continues today with Finland in the field.
The World Cup of Darts started yesterday, and there were already som big surprises. Seeded countries as Northern Ireland and Wales had to wave goodbye, as they lost against South Africa and Singapore respectively.
The first day of the World Cup also saw the debutants Darius Labanauskas and Mindaugas Barauskas going up against New Zealand. Unfortunately they lost by 5-1.
The Swedes ended up with the same numbers. Fortunately it was Sweden who got the five legs and Brazil who only got the one.
The victory for the Swedes mean, that they will go up against Scotland in the second round, as Scotland demolished Denmarks by 5-0 yesterday. Gary Anderson and Peter Wright impressed with an 101,55 average.
Nations as Japan, Belgium and Germany also advantaged from yesterday’s first round.
Today the first round continues, as we will have to find the next eight nations for the second round. Today we will see big nations, such as Ireland, England and Austria in action.
Australia will also be a part of the field today, as they go up against the last team from the PDC Nordic & Baltic region, Finland.
The bookies have Australia as the favourites in this match, but as we saw yesterday, none of the nations can feel secure.
After the match between Australia and Finland, the Netherlands will take on the stage, as they will start the title defence against Spain. Unlike the previous years, the Netherlands will not have Raymond van Barnveld on the team. The five-time World Champion has been replaced by Jermaine Wattimena, who will try to win another Dutch World Cup alongside world number one Michael van Gerwen.
