Jonas Sørensen participated in his first ever Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour today and he did nothing less than winning the tournament and the title.
Dreams do come true. Jonas Sørensen is the perfect example for that.
Today he made his debut on the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour and even so he managed to go all the way and won the title, after he beat PDC Tour Card holder Cor Dekker in the final.
The Dane won the first leg of the match with the throw in hand, before Cor Dekker made it 1-1 after the second leg. However Cor Dekker did not manage to win more legs in the match, as Jonas Sørensen took advantage of every opportunity he was given throughout the match, meaning the Dane could secure the title with an impressive victory of 6-1.
The Dane started the day with a strong performance against Anton Östlund in the round of 64, as he won 6-3 against the talented Swede.
In the round of 32 Jonas Sørensen then went up against multiple World Cup participant Mindaugas Barauskas and it quickly looked like an early exit for the Danish debutant, as the Lithuanian got in front by 3-0 with two 15 darters along the way. However Sørensen then got himself up on level, before Barauskas once again got ahead, as he made the score 4-3 in 18 darts.
The Dane however won the next three legs and got the job done 6-4.
In the round of 16 the Dane made short work of competing, as Jonas Sørensen won 6-2 against Finland’s Miika Mustaniemi before going up against PDC Tour Card holder Oskar Lukasiak in the quarter-finals.
Sørensen got himself up by 2-0, before Oskar Lukasiak won three legs in a row by 16, 12 and 17 darts. But once again the match tipped to the other side, as Jonas Sørensen got in front by 4-3. After this we saw no more breaks in the match, meaning the Dane won the match by 6-5.
In the semi-finals Jonas went up against Jonas, as Sørensen had to face Graversen at the oche. Even though Sørensen had played some good games before this match, none of them could compete with his performance against Graversen, as he averaged impressive 99.03 and won the match by 6-1.
Cor Dekker got a BYE into the round of 32, in which he went up against former Nordic Darts Masters participant Brian Løkken. However the Norwegian did not have much problems with the Dane, as he secured the victory by 6-2.
In the round of 16 he was drawn up against Valters Melderis, and even though both players won their own leg with the throw in the first two legs, Cor Dekker quickly got himself up by 4-1, meaning the Latvian never really managed to get back into the match and therefore the Norwegian won the match by 6-3.
In the quarter-finals we did not see even one break of throw, as Andreas Hyllgaardhus pushed Cor Dekker all the way into an 11th and deciding leg. Luckily for Dekker, he had the throw in the leg and managed to go all the way, securing the match with a 36-checkout.
The semi-final was a replay of the final from the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour 1, as Andreas Harrysson was the opponent for Cor Dekker. This time however Andreas Harysson was not able to put the pressure on the Norwegian, as Cor Dekker won the match by 6-1, even though he had the opportunity to make a whitewash with three missed darts at double 20 in the sixth leg.
Later tonight the first European Qualfier of the weekend will be held, as we will find the Nordic and Baltic participant for the German Darts Grand Prix.
