Marko Kantele won the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour 4, which is his 15th Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour title of his career.
Even though Valters Melderis won the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour 3 yesterday, he could not due much against Marko Kantele in the final of the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour 4, which the Finn won by 6-2.
Marko Kantele got off to a good start by winning 6-0 against Edgar Znutins in the round of 64, before taking a victory of 6-2 against Andreas Harrysson in the next round. In the last leg he even checked out impressive 96.
After this he won 6-4 and 6-3 against Dmitriy Zhukov and Johan Engström before going up against Darius Labanauskas in the semi-finals.
The Lithuanian got up by 4-0 and 5-1 in the match, before Marko Kantele managed to win five legs in a row, winning the match by 6-5 and securing his spot in the final against Valters Melderis.
The final started as a close encounter as Valters Melderis got up by 2-1, but then Marko Kantele once again managed to win five legs in a row and won the match by 6-2. With this title, Marko Kantele has now won 15 Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour titles, which is one less than Kim Viljanen who has the record of 16 titles.
Valters Melderis took his form from yesterday into the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour 4 and won his first two matches of the day by 6-0 against Arngrímur Ólafsson and Martin Jangeborn respectively.
Afterwards he won 6-1 against Niels Heinsøe in the round of 16, before winning 6-1 against Teemu Harju who has proven to be quite excellent at hitting 180’s.
In the semi-final Edwin Torbjörnsson was beaten by 6-4, but it was not to be for Valters Melderis who was in for a back-to-back title.
However Valters Melderis is now number one on the Nordic and Baltic rankings, with 2000 euros to his name.
The Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour continues in Iceland in April.
At Saturday evening Johan Engström qualified for the European Darts Grand Prix.
