Players Championship 2 was not as good as Players Championship 1.
Madars Razma really had some bad luck this weekend. In Players Championship 1 he drew John Henderson in the first round, and today, at Players Championship 2, he drew Glen Durrant in the first round.
Glen Durrant went up by 2-0 in the match, but then Madars won four legs in a row and got up by 4-2. Unfortunately Glen Durrant got the next two, before they checked out one leg each, and had to go into a decisive leg. Glen Durrant then pulled a 12-darter to secure the match.
Marko Kantele also lost in the first round as he met Kirk Shepherd. The Englishman was up by 4-1 in the match, but then his level fell a little and Marko Kantele took advantage of that and equalized it to 4-4. Unfortunately Kirk Shepherd refound his level and took the next two legs.
Darius Labanauskas had a little more success, as he reached the second round before losing. In the first round he beat Vincent van der Meer by impressive 6-0. Darius only averaged 84,3 in the match, but Vincent van der Meer did not average more than 78,1.
The defeat in the second round was again Jonny Clayton. The Welshman won by 6-4 and averaged 100,3 against 94 from Darius Labanauskas.
The event was won by Dave Chisnall, who beat Glen Durrant by 8-7 in the final. It was the first title for ‘Chizzy’ in a year and a half.
Dave Chisnall averaged 92,95 throughout the event, and on his way to the final he beat names such as James Wade, Jonny Clayton and Rob Cross. His average was only the 38th best at the event.
A bit of history was also written today, as the event featured no less than four 9-darters. Geert Nentjes did it against Mervyn King, Chris Dobey did it against Dave Prins in the decisive leg, Dave Chisnall did it against Rowby-John Rodriquez and Michael van Gerwen did it against Jonny Clayton.
It was extra special for Geert Nentjes and Chris Dobey, as it was their first 9-darters of their careers.
