Michael van Gerwen won the Players Championship 3 as the PDCNB-players had a bad day.
The Players Championship 3 was being held today in Wigan. The three tour card holders from the PDC Nordic & Baltic, Madars Razma, Marko Kantele and Darius Labanauskas, all participated at the event today.
Sadly it was with no greater success.
Darius Labanauskas met Steve West in the first round, and despite being in front by 2-0 and 4-3 in the match, the Englishman ended up winning the match by 6-4.
Marko Kantele also lost in the first round. He met Jonathan Worsley, and what a match it was. Marko started the match by winning the first three legs with averages above 100. He also won the fourth leg with an 88-average. Jonathan Worsley then won the next two legs before Marko made it 5-2. But Worlsey did not give up, and took the next three legs and then it had to be decided in an eleventh leg. Sadly Marko only averaged 66 in this leg, and despite Jonathan Worsley only averaged 79,1, the Englishman could secure the last leg with a 40-checkout.
Madars Razma did a little bit better, as he made it to the second round. In the first round he beat Christian Bunse by 6-3, before going up against Chris Dobey in the second round. Despite of three match darts, Madars lost the match by 6-5, as he could not hit the D20 when most needed. But on the bright side, Madars averaged impressing 98,7 in the match.
Michael van Gerwen won the event by beating Ian White by 8-5 in the final. The Dutchman also made a 9-darter in his match against Jamie Hughes, even without hitting a single 180. Michael van Gerwen went T20, T20, T19 in the first three darts before going T20, T20, T18 in the next three. He ended the perfect leg by going T19, T19 and D18.
Therefor we have already seen five 9-darters in the first three Players Championship events.
