Jani Haavisto completed a magnificent comeback to the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour with a title in the second event.
Jani Haavisto is not new to winning titles in the PDC Nordic & Baltic. Between 2012 and 2014 he won no less than seven titles before walking away from the stage light.
Now, 12 years after the latest title, he has made a comeback on the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour and in the only second event of the season, he has now secured his eighth title ever with a 6-4 win against Oskar Lukasiak in the final.
However it looked like Haavisto would have some problems securing the title, as Oskar Lukasiak was in front by 3-1 after the first four legs. Only positive thing was the fact that Jani Haavisto had won his leg in only 14 darts.
After that lead to Lukasiak, Jani Haavisto then won four legs in a row, showing everyone that he still got it. He won the four legs in 15, 17, 11 and 14 darts.
Oskar Lukasiak then won another leg, before Jani Haavisto secured the title with another 15-darter.
Jani Haavisto got off to a slow start today with a 6-1 win against Harjis Cinis with an average of 68.28 in the round of 64.
In the next round the “Finnisher” found his level from the two other days, averaging 83.79 in his 6-4 victory against Björn Lejon.
In the round of 16 it was a clash of the titans, as Jani Haavisto was up against finalist from the first event Andreas Harrysson. With 16, 18, 20 and 14 darts, Jani Haavisto stormed out of the box and got himself up by 4-0, before Harrysson won two legs in a row. The Finn then won the next leg, making he score 5-2, before Harrysson was the man dominating and taking the next three legs, equalizing the game and forcing the fight into a last and deciding leg.
A crucial 180 in his fifth visit to the oche, got him in a good position for the leg as he got himself down to 58. However he had to take two more visits to the oche, before he won the match by 6-5.
In the quarter-final PDC Nordic and Baltic Championship winner Teemu Harju wasn’t left with much of a chance, as Jani Haavisto won the match by 6-1, before going into yet another 11 leg match in the semi-final against Daniel Larsson, which saw Jani Haavisto securing his spot in the final with a 15-darter.
Oskar Lukasiak began the tournament with a 6-1 win against fellow Swede Simon Skilberg in the round of 64. Afterwards he was up against Latvian youngster Ralfs Laumanis in the round of 32, which saw the Swedish World Championship participant coming out with a win of 6-4.
Another Swede awaited in the round of 16, as Anton Östlund was the man to beat for Oskar Lukasiak. It became a close encounter between the two countrymen, as it went all the way to an 11th and deciding leg, which Oskar Lukasiak won by impressive 13 darts.
In the quarter-final Oskar Lukasiak dispatched yet another Swede, as he won 6-2 against Pär Riihonen, before going up against the winner of the first event Cor Dekker in the semi-final.
The two strong players both had some trouble braking the other’s throw, which saw the match go all the way to 4-4. However when Oskar Lukasiak got in front by 5-4, he finally managed to brake the Norwegian with a 17-darter, securing a win by 6-4 and thereby a spot in the final.
At Saturday evening, Jani Haavisto managed to qualify for the European Tour, as he won the qualifier for the Belgian Darts Open in March.
