Mio Varila impressed a lot of people this weekend when winning his first ever PDC Nordic and Baltic title on Sunday, he joins Darius Labanauskas on the weekends PRO Tour merit list, the latter secured his victory on Saturday.
Mio Varila secured his maiden Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour title this afternoon, after he won 6-3 against Cor Dekker in the final.
The Finn got off to the best start of the match, as he got in front by 2-0. Cor Dekker however managed to keep his cool and lifted his game, giving him a lead of 3-2 after the first five legs.
Varila then got on 3-3, before he won no less than three legs in a row, securing him his first ever title in the PDC Nordic and Baltic.
The Finn impressed in the round of 64, as he won 6-0 against Niels Heinsøe. In the next two rounds he beat Valters Melderis and Petri Rasmus, before going up against fellow countryman Jani Haavisto in the quarter-final.
And once again he showed some impressive darts, as he won the match against his fellow countryman 6-0.
In the semi-final he was drawn against Johan Engström, and after getting quickly ahead by 3-1, the Finn never looked back and won the match by 6-4, securing his match against Cor Dekker in the final.
After losing out in the round of 32 at Saturday, Cor Dekker got a BYE in the round of 64 at event 6 and then won his match in the round of 32 against Pär Riihonen by 6-2.
After this he dispatched two Danes from the tournament, as he won against Jonas Graversen in the round of 16 before getting his revenge on Andreas Toft Jørgensen in the quarter-final by 6-1.
The semi-final was a match against Viktor Tingström, and even though the Swede was in front multiple times throughout the match, Cor Dekker proved too strong in the end, as he won the 11th and deciding leg, securing the spot in the final against Mio Varila.
On Saturday Darius Labanauskas won his first Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour title of the season, making it a total of 13 titles for the Lithuanian in the PDC Nordic and Baltic system .
The Lithuanian reached the quarter-finals after winning three matches. In the quarter-final he was up against Jani Haavisto, and even though the Finn got ahead 1-0, Darius Labanauskas quickly got in front and secured a victory of 6-3 in the end.
The semi-final was also won by 6-3 against fellow Tour Card holder Viktor Tingström, before going up against Andreas Toft Jørgensen in the final.
The final was quite a close encounter, as the match had to go all the way to the 11th and deciding leg, before Darius Labanauskas could add yet another title to his resume.
Andreas Toft Jørgensen however had a really good run into the final, as he won against players such as Cor Dekker, Teemu Harju and Daniel Larsson.
Friday Johan Engström and Teemu Harju won the qualifications for the International Darts Open and the Baltic Sea Darts Open respectively, before Johan Engström once again secured a ticket for the European circuit on Saturday, when he won the qualification for the Slovak Darts Open.
