It’s time for the next two quarter finals of this year’s World Matchplay.
The first quarter finals were played yesterday and such crazy matches. First, Dave Chisnall, who started as a race car against young Jeffrey de Zwaan. It looked like a match, in which the Dutchman would crack do to the high level of Chizzy. However, that was not the case.
Instead it was Chizzy who broke and Jeffrey de Zwaan continued the calm and high level, that he has shown in all his matches during this tournament. Hence the Dutchman could pull out of the match with a victory by 16-8.
Best as we thought it could not get any better, it got better. The match between Gary Anderson and Joe Cullen was among the top five, if not the best match that has been played throughout 2018. The match was so even and it had it all. Gary Anderson made one 9-darter already in the fourth leg, after which he made a checkout of 141 in the following set.

After that, the incredibly even match continued, non of them were ever up with more than two legs. But the impressive level were not finished yet. At 9-9, Joe Cullen pulled out a 170-checkout of his sleeve.
Now we know the one semifinal, that will stand between Jeffrey de Zwaan and Gary Anderson. Today we will find the other semifinal.
The level can hardly live up to yesterday, and yet the level has been incredibly high at the tournament this year, so everything is possible.
The first match is between Simon Whitlock and Peter Wright. Simon Whitlock got into the quarterfinals by knocking James Wade, in a very close match, while Peter Wright surely got through when he beat Kim Huybrechts in superb style. Simon Whitlock has not beat Peter Wright in 2018, but that was also the case with James Wade, where Whitlock found an incredibly high level, so maybe we will see another exciting show of high class.
In the second quarterfinal we find Mensur Suljovic and Darren Webster. Suljovic beat Ian White by 11-8, to reach this round, where Darren Webster, surprisingly won with the same numbers against the world champion Rob Cross. The players have met five times and Suljovic leads by 4-1. Websters one victory was back in 2015. But it has not been predictable in this tournament, so all we can hope for is that it will be an exciting match.
