The first session of the Nordic & Baltic Championship took place this evening in Copenhagen and gave us a lot of drama.
Friday evening saw the first ever session of the Nordic & Baltic Championship take off at the Best Western Plus Park Globetrotter Copenhagen Airport.
Viktor Tingström lit up the session by beating Ivan Springboard by 6-1 in the first match. Even though the Dane managed to checkout impressive 121, Ivan Springbord never really managed to put the pressure on Viktor Tingström, who won the match by an 85.53 average.
Afterwards the event got something of a drama, as Pär Riihonen won 6-5 against Michael Mogensen, even though the Dane got up by 4-1 along the way. Riihonen then managed to win three legs in a row and got the score to 4-4, before Michael Mogensen once again got ahead by 5-4, before the Swede won the last two legs of the match, securing him the win.
The drama continued in the next match when Matthias Jönsson and Mindaugas Barauskas went up against each other. A game filled with nerves resulted in a really close match, at which the Swede got up by 2-0, before Barauskas equalized for the score 2-2. Then Jönsson managed to get in front by 5-3, before the Lithuanian won three legs in a row and got away with the victory.
The fourth match of the evening gave us something of a comeback, as Kent Jøran Sivertsen started the match by winning three legs in a row with an average just above 88. Anton Östlund however began to dig his way back into the game and won impressive six legs in a row, giving him a 6-3 win.
After this yet another match had to be decided in an 11th leg, as Niels Heinsøe and Edwin Torbjörnsson pushed each other until the final dart. And even though the Dane managed to go up by 3-2 and 4-3, Torbjörnsson got the hold of him and won the match by 6-5.
In the all Dane – and all Andreas – showdown, Andreas Hyllgaardhus got off to a perfect start by getting in front by 3-0. Andreas Toft Jørgensen however managed to get back into the game and made the score 3-3, before Hyllgaardhus eventually managed to win the match by 6-4.
Jani Keskinarkaus looked like a player going for the glory when he equalized the score to 3-3 after a magnificent 120-checkout against Cor Dekker. But the Tour Card holder did show exactly what kind of experience he have gotten himself on the PDC Pro Tour this season and secured the win by 6-3.
In the last game of the evening Jonas Masalin proved to be the better player, as he won the match 6-4 against Edgar Znutins. The Latvian however got in front by 4-2, before Jonas Masalin won himself four legs in a row.
