Teemu Harju will be going to Ally Pally for the first time ever, after he won the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour 12 and surpassed Oskar Lukasiak in the rankings.
You win some, you lose some. A famous saying in sports. And today it is the case for Teemu Harju and Oskar Lukasiak.
For a long time it looked like Oskar Lukasiak would be taking the second spot for Ally Pally through the Nordic and Baltic rankings, however Teemu Harju surpassed Oskar Lukasiak, by winning the last match of the final event of the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour this season. Both players ending up on 4475 euros on the rankings, however as Teemu Harju achieved the best result in the latest tournament, the Finn will be going to London and the World Darts Championship on count back.
Teemu Harju secured a 6-2 against Johan Engström in the final, which handed him his second Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour title of the season.
Without too much resistance, Teemu Harju quickly got through the first two rounds by beating the two Norwegians Kristian Sneddon and Andreas Rokstad by 6-0 and 6-1.
In the round of 16 he was up against fellow Finn Juho Jylhämaa, and even though Jylhämaa got ahead by both 3-1 and 4-3, Teemu Harju managed to win the last three legs of the match, meaning he secured a spot in the quarter-finals by 6-4.
In the quarter-final he had to face Kent Jøran Sivertsen, the Norwegian who has really made a name for himself in this season. However Teemu Harju quickly got ahead by 3-0, with 15, 15 and 20 darts. After this both players managed to hold their own throws, meaning Teemu Harju won the match by 6-3.
In the semi-final he had to face Andreas Toft Jørgensen, who had secured a spot at the Nordic & Baltic Darts Championship after winning the quarter-final against fellow Dane Brian Løkken.
With missed doubles Toft Jørgensen never managed to put a lot of pressure on Teemu Harju, who won the match by 6-1.
In the final Johan Engström went ahead 1-0 in 15 darts. The levels the two finalists are capable of never really materialised, it was Teemu who took the chances he was offered to go 3-1 up, before Engström managed to win another leg.
Unfortunately that was the last leg for the Swede, with Teemu Harju taking the match 6-2.
Johan Engström started the day with a 6-1 victory against Jack Marius Kristensen from Norway, setting up a top clash against Andreas Hyllgaardhus in the round of 32.
The close encounter between the two Scandinavians tipped to both sides of the scale, as both players tried to forge ahead in the game. A final and nervy 11th leg saw Engström scrape to a 6-5 victory using 19 darts.
Johan survived another last leg shoot out winning 6-5 once again in the round of 16 against Jonas Masalin, before going up against Ivan Springboard Poulsen in the quarter-finals.
After five legs in the quarter-final, the Dane was ahead by 3-2, however Johan Engström managed to win four legs in a row, giving him a victory of 6-3.
Marko Kantele was Engström’s opponent in the semi-final and with a 15 darter and a 14 darter along the way, Johan managed to win the match by 6-2, heading into the final against Teemu Harju.
A fantastic and exciting end to the Nordic and Baltic Pro Tour, with its last match having so much riding on it.
Andreas Harrysson tops the PDCNB rankings with Teemu Harju finishing in second spot. They are off to the PDC World Championships.
But the overall season in the PDC Nordic & Baltic has not ended, as we now look forward to the inaugural Nordic & Baltic Darts Championship in October, with top 24 from the Nordic and Baltic rankings in the field.
It is also worth mentioning, that Darius Labanauskas won the last European qualifier of the season on Saturday, meaning he will be heading to Germany later this season.
