The UK Open must find its winner. The bookmakers have Gerwyn Price as their favorite.
It’s Sunday, and so it’s time to find the winner of this year’s UK Open. The day today consists of quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
Among the remaining eight players, there are a lot of surprising names, as even more favorites were send out of the tournament yesterday.
Among other, Dave Chisnall lost 10-9 against Simon Stevenson in the sixth round, James Wade lost 10-7 against Ross Smith, Dimitri van den Bergh lost 10-8 against Steve Beaton and Simon Whitlock lost 10-7 against Josh Payne.
Unfortunately we also saw Madars Razma being send out of the tournament yesterday, as he lost 10-2 against Nathan Aspinall in the fifth round.
However, there were also favorites who stood up to their roles as favorites, and therefore Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith and Rob Cross won their two matches yesterday.
The three are also among the favorites to win the tournament, and according to the bookmakers, Gerwyn Price is the biggest favorite.
Should Gerwyn Price go all the way, he must start beating Simon Stevenson in today’s third quarter-final. Before that, Rob Cross will face Josh Payne and Michael Smith will go up against Steve Beaton.
The last quarter-final of the day is between Nathan Aspinall and Ross Smith.
Normally one would already know who could potentially face each other in the semi-finals. In the UK Open, however, they use the system with a completely open draw, and therefore we first know the semi-finals when the draw has been made after the quarter-finals.
