Michael van Gerwen won yet another title when he won the European Darts Open this evening.
Michael van Gerwen won eight tournaments on the European Tour last year. This evening he secured the first in 2019 when he beat Rob Cross in the final.
Michael van Gerwen started the day by beating Jermaine Wattimena 6-0. It took him barely ten minutes to accomplish this.
Then he faced Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals, where he won 6-5 after a match with an incredibly good level, where both players averaged above 100.
In the semi-finals, it was Mensur Suljovic, who was on tour, and here it became a 7-5 victory for the Dutchman.
In the final he had to face Rob Cross, who had beaten Jonny Clayton, Justin Pipe and Peter Wright to reach the final.
The final was a really close affair, where Michael van Gerwen in the end could pull out with a 8-6 victory, even though Rob Cross was ahead by 4-3 along the way.
Thus, the hunt for yet another great European season has started for Michael van Gerwen.
