The first session of day two at the Nordic & Baltic Championship had multiple upsets, which saw no less than four seeded players being expedited out of the tournament.
The first session of the program on Saturday started quite spectacular, as Andreas Harrysson and Viktor Tingström started the match by averaging above 100 both of them. After getting up 2-0 for Viktor Tingström, Andreas Harrysson secured himself his first leg and got things going. With an average just under 100 at the end, Andreas Harrysson secured himself a victory of 6-3.
A bit to the opposite, Daniel Larsson had some trouble finding form in the start of the match against Jonas Masalin in the second match of the day. Masalin got ahead by 1-0, with Larsson averaging under 70 at the moment. However Daniel Larsson managed to dig himself into the game again and slowly raised the average alongside checking out one leg after another and brining himself in front by 4-1. Even though the Finn secured himself yet another leg, Daniel Larsson proved to strong and won the match by 6-2.
The third match of the day saw Marko Kantele going up against Anton Östlund, who won against Kent Jøran Sivertsen in the first round. The match saw both players having some trouble with the doubles, however Anton Östlund managed to get ahead by 4-1, before Marko Kantele once again won himself a leg. The Swede then won another two legs in a row, securing a victory of 6-2.
Another upset for the seeded players folded out in the fourth match, as Edwin Torbjörnsson beat 5. seeded Valters Melderis 6-5. The Swede got ahead by 4-2, before Valters Melderis won three legs in a row bringing himself in a good position by a 5-4 lead. Torbjörnsson then checked out impressive 140 for 5-5, before he also managed to check out and winning the 11th and deciding leg.
In the fifth match of the afternoon Teemu Harju showed exactly why he is among the seeded players, as he expedited Pär Riihonen out of the tournament with an impressive 6-1 win.
Afterwards something of a drama played out on the stage, as Darius Labanauskas was up against Cor Dekker. The Norwegian got himself up by 3-1 and then 4-2, before the Lithuanian won three legs in a row, giving him the opportunity to take advantage of a 5-4 lead. Cor Dekker however did not give up, and after equalizing for 5-5, the Norwegian managed to checkout 124 for the victory, as Darius Labanauskas was left with 214.
The biggest upset however happened in the penultimate match, as Mindaugas Barauskas brought some of his absolute best game to the stage against Oskar Lukasiak. The 3. seeded Swede seemed to having some trouble finding a good rhythm on the oche, and Barauskas took advantage of that and got up by 4-1. Lukasiak then won the sixth leg, but as the Lithuanian won the next two legs, another seeded player had to leave the tournament.
In the last match Andreas Hyllgaardhus only saw the dust from Johan Engström who absolutely demolished the Dane by no less than 6-0. Johan Engström averaged 99.10 in the match, which was the second highest average of the afternoon, as Andreas Harrysson averaged 99.11 in his match against Viktor Tingström.
The tournament continues with the final session in the evening.
