The second day of the German Darts Championship

First round is completed and a few surprises were in among. The second round is waiting.

The first round had 16 different matches and most ended as expected, but there were exceptions.

Kyle Anderson had some trouble with the doubles against Lee Bryant, but despite being down by 4-1, he got a 6-4 victory. Worse things went for Darius Labanauskas, who had even more trouble with the doubles. The Lithuanian missed no less than 16 attempts at the doubles, so it became a defeat of 6-3 to Jan Dekker.

Later in the day, the biggest surprise came on the day. Young Max Hopp got thrown out of the tournament after losing 6-2 to Andrew Gilding.

During the evening there were no big surprises, but they were not far from. Both Adrian Lewis and Robert Thornton had some trouble against Antonio Alcinas and Robert Marijanovic. The two favorites, however, both won by the numbers 6-5.

Today, the big names enter the tournament and we start with Dave Chisnall, who is heading up against Mark Webster. Mark Webster told yesterday that the training at the last had been limited as he and the wife moved and at the same time expects a little new baby in seven weeks. So the Welsh will probably have a hard time against Dave Chisnall, who has started to look like Chizzy, as we all know him.

Then Gerwyn Price will rise against Jan Dekker. Price could really use a win and some success, 2018 has not really been his year. But it requires him to do something of his best, because Jan Dekker is not an easy opponent when he plays at his very best.

Later in the afternoon, Steve Beaton, who has been seeded in Peter Wright’s absence, plays against Martin Schindler before Simon Whitlock closes the first session against Michael Rasztovits.

Today’s fireworks seem to be in the evening, for a couple of interesting shows are waiting here. Among other things, we have James Wade against Robert Thornton, followed by Rob Cross against Kyle Anderson.

In addition, Mervyn King is going to face Adrian Lewis. A really hard fight to predict. Both players have a very nice top level, in turn, their bottom level is terrible. Can they both hit the day and create a fantastic match?

Michael van Gerwen starts his hunt for the title when he meets Spanish Cristo Reyes, after which the evening is being shut down by Ian White against Terry Jenkins.
